missoula permaculture potluck

When I was in Seattle, somebody started a permaculture potluck. It was awesome. In no time there was a big crowd of great folks.

Then somebody got the idea of making it a potluck + "work party" and they quickly dwindled to oblivion. Not because people were shy of hard work, but because a lot of these events struck me as hardly "permaculture".

So I'm thinking it would be great to have something that was strictly a permaculture potluck.

I'm in an extra tiny place, anybody with a larger place wanna host the first?

And, it seems kinda silly to talk about a potluck without attendees: if there were a permaculture potluck, who would wanna come? Two people? Twenty?

I would definitely attend if I were available. Unfortunately, my time is very constrained and I live over an hour away half-time and over an hour-and-one-half the other half.

I'd like to meet some Permie folks and food is always good. Perhaps we can chat further about a space--I have some ideas if there is interest. Date, Time, all that?

i'd be down. my house is 15 x 30. also, it's getting warm enough outside to do a backyard barbeque sort of thing.

Sounds like heaven, but I'm 1500 miles away Just looked at some land today just next to 60 acres that are being paddock-shifted with both cows and sheep! I got to see the effects of Dennis' use of the Salatin method on Florida land. It shows how desolate the surrounding land is and how amazing his land is. He's even rotated his cows on leased land that eventually sold for $5K per acre, specifically due to the fact that it was the "best land around for sale". The new owners paid about $3K more per acre for this land than surrounding desolation due to the amazingness of it. Dennis intentionally left trees in to make it more silvopasture and the moisture retention, plus fertility has turned it to gold. Not even a thank you from the previous land owner who leased it to him.

I got an email from Tim Skufka. I keep asking Tim to post to the forums, but .... I'm not sure what happens, he is forum disabled. I suppose I could make up all sorts of interesting things and say "tim said" ....

So! The big news is that tim suggested the mud mingle. I replied that I don't want to go to something and end up visiting with a bunch of people that think that permaculture is a bunch of crazy talk. On the other hand, in my fantasy world, the people at MUD are plum bonkers about permaculture. it does seem like a match made in heaven.

And then I got to thinking some more: what if a dozen permaculture enthusiasts went to the mud mingle? Or several dozen? We could still talk shop about permaculture PLUS we get the added bonus of infecting other brains with this stuff.

The only downside I can think of is that we would not have a lightning rod to attract other permaculture folk. On the other hand, if the MUD folks announced that there would be permaculture folks, then I suppose that would mitigate this concern.

What do the rest of you think?

I suppose we could shoot for both: our own thing and the MUD thing. ??

I would definitely be interested in a Permaculture Potluck. Perhaps we could engage the University FLAT folks? They have a large meeting room and a bit of land to practice various permaculture concepts. In fact, they may already be doing so ...

The folks living there are very approachable and I also have contact information for one of them.
